The Return of the Dire Wolf And the Revival of Timeless Design
Science fiction has officially met reality: the dire wolf, a creature that last roamed the Earth more than 12,500 years ago, has made its dramatic return.
Thanks to the ground-breaking work of Dallas-based biotech company Colossal Biosciences, this extinct predator is now being hailed as the world’s first successfully de-extincted animal. In a landmark achievement for science, Colossal’s researchers have managed to bring the dire wolf back to life—or at least, something very close to it.
How Did They Do It?
The process began with the discovery of two well-preserved dire wolf fossils. From these ancient remains, scientists extracted enough genetic material to assemble two complete high-quality genomes of Aenocyon dirus—the scientific name for the dire wolf.
The team then compared this genetic blueprint with those of living canid relatives: wolves, foxes, and jackals. Their goal? To pinpoint the specific genes responsible for the dire wolf’s unique traits—like its famously thick, long fur, larger frame, and striking white coat.
Using CRISPR gene-editing technology, they introduced these ancient traits into the DNA of a modern gray wolf, the dire wolf’s closest living cousin. The edited embryos were then implanted into surrogates. The result? Three healthy dire wolf pups were born—two males on October 1, 2024, and a female on January 30, 2025.
These pups are now living and thriving in a protected 2,000-acre reserve at a secret U.S. location. While technically hybrid creatures, they closely resemble their prehistoric ancestors, right down to their thick pelts and imposing stature.
It’s a thrilling story that feels like a blend of Jurassic Park and cutting-edge conservation—and it got us thinking about the cyclical nature of history. Because while nature may take thousands of years to bring back a species, style tends to circle back a little faster.
Timeless Style: The Return of Highland and Montana
At Bown of London, we’ve seen how great design never truly disappears—it just waits for the right moment to make its return.
Two of our most iconic dressing gown designs—Highland and Montana—have recently made a comeback, and they’re proving more popular than ever, especially with our American customers. These designs first appeared in our archive over two decades ago, but their appeal hasn’t aged a day.
-
Highland is a favorite among those with Scottish heritage or a love for all things Celtic. Rich, regal tones and a traditional tartan-inspired pattern give it a classic and dignified flair.
-
Montana, on the other hand, evokes the rustic charm of the American West. It has a laid-back, ranch-style aesthetic that feels right at home whether you’re in a log cabin or simply enjoying a slow Sunday morning indoors.
Much like the dire wolf, these robes embody a spirit of resilience, heritage, and character—reminders that quality and identity are never out of fashion.
Luxury That Lasts (Okay, Maybe Not 12,500 Years)
We understand that Bown of London’s luxury isn’t for everyone. But for those who value superior craftsmanship, long-lasting materials, and timeless design, our robes are made to be cherished.
While we can’t promise they’ll last 12,500 years like a fossilized genome, we can promise you years of luxurious comfort and style.
With over 1,700 verified reviews on Trustpilot and an overall rating of “Excellent,” our commitment to quality is recognized and appreciated by customers around the world.
